Hilti in the Tower

Landquart; Whoever hears the name of Hilti inevitably thinks of the indestructible hammer drill in the red toolbox. But Hilti means far more than that.
Hence the Hilti Group is engaged in development with an eye to the installation of elevator product systems for economic and reliable fixture of guide rails and doors on the wall of the lift shaft.

The high priority given to safety and economy in worldwide lift system installations is prompting the Hilti Group to implement a tailored program for the elevator sector.

Dr Michael Merz of Global Account Management at Hilti: "Today all the well-know elevator providers use Hilti product systems for installation. 8 million elevator systems worldwide which, after more than 20 years in operation require modernisation or complete replacement in order to afford the passenger increased safety and comfort using the latest technology, present a particular challenge. Reliable fastenings must be made on the most varied range of old building substructures in an economical way. Hilti draws on long experience in the renovation of building structures in all parts of the globe and tried and tested purpose-built product systems. The tailored orientation of fastening systems for lift components is based on a range of test rigs, with which knowledge can be gained for redesign and further development of product systems specifically for the elevator sector." One of these test installations is at the CEDES Company in Switzerland.

CEDES is a manufacturer of optical sensors for machine safety, automation, door and gate applications and also for the elevator sector. In the case of elevators CEDES is among the world leaders. The company is the only manufacturer of elevator sensor components which has its own test tower. The inner life of the 60 meter high tower is high tech of the first order. Hence one of the most modern and rapid elevators in Switzerland is installed in it. And in addition, of course, a lot of electronics. The lift tracks for guiding the lift car are attached using Hilti fastening technology. The fastenings are fitted with sensors which meet the most varied demands whilst the lift is in operation.

For Dr Michael Merz one thing is certain: "We greatly value the opportunity of collaborating with CEDES. For our tests we gain access to excellent equipment and the good reputation of the CEDES name in the elevator sector for innovation, safety and economy of the product systems combines very well with our values."
