Interview with incoming CEO: Dr. Peter Nebiker

Landquart; Beat De Coi will be handing over the reins of the CEDES’ group of companies to Dr. Peter Nebiker on January 1 2008. In the role as chairman of the board of CEDES, Beat De Coi will concentrate on the companies’ strategic development.

Dr. Peter Nebiker, currently manager of Business Unit Eleva-tors, is to be the new CEO of the CEDES’ Group. Several of our employees put questions to the incoming CEO about his plans for the future

What are you most looking forward to as new CEO?
I’m excited by the prospect of moving forward, backed by a team of people, and achieving goals that are simply not possible to reach alone. I feel very much at home at CEDES, and enjoy being able to working alongside so many good people.

What characteristics are important for you?
Candor
, having a team spirit, being proud to work at CEDES, being ready to help others out; in other words, the CEDES culture.

What wish would you most like to have granted?
To always be healthy. And to have enough time for my family and friends, outside of work.

Is there anything about our company, which you have always said to yourself you would change, given the chance? If so, what can we expect when you take over control?
There is always something you’d like to change. But first I’d like to experience CEDES from a CEO’s point of view and build up a corresponding picture. Then, where necessary, I would implement changes, together with the relevant managers.

You are following in the footsteps of a very successful CEO. Was it easy to accept the role?
No. It would easier to take over a struggling company and get it back on the right track. Ensuring that a successful company stays successful, is more difficult. My decision to take over as CEO is not a career move. I see my new job as a personal challenge, and I will do my very best to continue to steer the ship on its successful course.

Is it important for you to get to know every employee by name?
Yes. Unfortunately, I’m not always successful on that score.

Do you plan to run CEDES in the same way as Beat De Coi?
No. I’m not Beat De Coi and can only run things the best way I know how.

Does CEDES have further expansion plans, particularly in terms of more factory space?
We are an expanding company and we are slowly running out of space within our existing facility. Therefore, extending the building is more or less inevitable.

Will there be personnel changes, either at management or workforce levels?
I hope not.

What do you intend to do differently from Beat De Coi?
I won’t be in the office at 6 a.m.! Joking aside: I’m a different character to Beat and, as a result, will do a lot of things differently.

What are your most important goals for CEDES?
I want to ensure our long-term, sustainable success and, with that, provide job security for our employees. If we can do that, and be able to enjoy life at the same time, then I will have achieved my goal.

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In five years: At the head of a very successful company, i.e. CEDES.

In 10 years: That is a long way off. I hope that I still have an interesting job to do, working alongside interesting people.
