Cabrils,
CEDES’ presence throughout the Iberian peninsula is
anchored around CEDES Ibérica, located in Cabrils, outside Barcelona. The man at the helm here is 42 year-old Francisco Garcia. Thanks to an upbringing in Basel in the north west of Switzerland, the electronic engineer is fluent in German and English, as well as Spanish. This he put to good use when he began his career with CEDES in April 2006.
He had been involved with key Volkswagen projects for an Italian
automotive industry supplier and was sales manager for a CEDES’ safety and automation distributor, before taking on the challenge of establishing a CEDES’ Sales & Service office for both Spain and Portugal.

For us, there’s nothing safer than a Safe4
Garcia has been responsible for coordinating key projects with several new
customers. Of particular importance here was the homologation of CEDES products involved in the production of the new Pathfinder range of 4x4 vehicles at Nissan Motor Ibérica. A total of 160 Safe4 sensors protect the workers on a robotic welding line involving over 120
robots.
Nissan’s Mr. Dino Giannoni, Project Manager, Engineering department (New
Installations), explains that the Safe4 installations are critical for production at the Nissan plant. “Many people see photos or video of robots building cars and think everything is completely
automated. However, in most plants, human employees still play a key role in the
process. They need to be reliably protected in what is a potentially dangerous environment and the CEDES Safe4s provide that vital safety at our facility in Barcelona and the stamping lines in Montcada and
Reixac. For us, there’s nothing safer than a Safe4,” he remarks.
This and the Safe400 system installed on the LCD television mounting lines at Sony’s Viladecavalls plant are two of
CEDES’ flagship Spanish projects. Nevertheless, CEDES’ Ibérica president emphasizes that the Spanish elevator market is the most important one in Europe and one where he intends to make further
inroads. Garcia is also confident of forging ahead with new customers for
CEDES’ Doors & Gates business unit within both the railway industry and industrial doors
sector.
