Elevator industry in the digital age
The elevator industry is undergoing structural change. Beyond traditional system availability, other factors like energy efficiency, operational transparency, and digital service capabilities are moving into focus. For operators, planners, and service companies, this means that technical performance and business models must be aligned more closely.
At CEDES, we apply the same principle internally – because meaningful change should always begin within the organization itself. To address the demands of an increasingly connected world, we are bringing together our R&D and IT teams and looking at the elevator ecosystem as a whole. Topics such as cybersecurity, cloud services, and interconnected systems must be addressed holistically to ensure long-term, future‑proof operations.
Another lever is the standardization of interfaces and processes. Many market participants still work with isolated solutions between service, control center, ERP, and customer portal. Where data flows are consistently designed, response times shorten, escalations decrease, and customer communication becomes more proactive. This is exactly why we have recently rethought many processes and replaced our long-serving ERP system with an end-to-end digital platform based on Microsoft Dynamics 365. Combined with Power BI, it creates a modern, seamless data landscape.
The more comprehensive the available data, the more informed and forward-looking the decisions can be. We apply this principle not only to our internal processes but also to the solutions we develop. CEDES works closely with manufacturers of other elevator components and software partners to integrate additional data sources into our platform Elevate. The data collected by our light curtains can in turn be integrated into external solutions – for example, dispatching systems or field service management software.
As a result, this central data hub can serve as a single source of truth for elevator health. It enables our customers to optimize their processes, increase maintenance efficiency, always keep full visibility over their assets, and extend the lifespan of the equipment. Through close collaboration between our R&D, IT, and analytics experts, we ensure that the entire ecosystem runs smoothly and meets the highest cybersecurity standards.
This creates a clear picture for the coming years: successful companies will be those that position elevator technology not just as a product but as an integrated, data-driven availability service. Those who combine technical excellence with standardized digital processes can sustainably increase the efficiency of their operations as well as customer satisfaction.
