Technical masterpiece from Landquart

10/08/2019
The world of elevators has been waiting for this: CEDES is about to launch iDiscovery, a product that revolutionizes elevator safety. This ingenious solution inspired guests from all over Europe who were fortunate enough to discover the full potential of the technical masterpiece prior to interlift 2019.

It took almost five years of painstaking work to develop iDiscovery . The revolutionary product not only takes elevator safety to a whole new level, it also eliminates the need for many previously required individual components. Prior to this year’s interlift trade fair, executives from leading European manufacturers of elevator controllers were able to discover what makes iDiscovery so special and how elevators will be utilizing it in the future. Forty business representatives from nine different countries accepted the invitation to a pre-launch event in Landquart, Switzerland, on September 19 and 20, 2019. “The huge interest shown in our product fills us with joy and proves that the market has been waiting for a product just like iDiscovery,” says Andreas Hunziker, Managing Director EMEA & RoW.

Ingenious solution

iDiscovery is a position supervisor unit that together with the absolute positioning system ( APS , shaft information system) from CEDES assumes most of the safety-relevant functions of an elevator. Instead of many mechanical systems, you now only need one – a long-overdue revolution if the trade experts’ opinions are anything to go by. Autonomous, flexible, practice oriented and easy to handle – CEDES Group CEO Christian-Erik Thöny personally explained the advantages of the new product to the invited guests.

An advanced product

Every single component of iDiscovery is manufactured at the company’s production facilities in Landquart and tested to the highest standards; something the guests were able to see for themselves during a tour of the factory. The test elevator, which has already completed more than 1.2 million rides this year alone, perfectly illustrates the straightforward configuration of iDiscovery in the field. A teach process can be started at any time, regardless of the position of the car, and even a single ride past the position indicator clips and the rated speed clips provides the easy-to-handle device with all the information required for configuration. How many centimeters can be re-adjusted and how is the tape mounted in case of an inclined shaft wall? The large number of questions about development and real-life application underlined the exceptional interest of the trade experts. The more detailed the questions became, the more obvious it was that CEDES really had thought of everything when it comes to iDiscovery and is launching a technically perfected product onto the market. Peter Gerstenmeyer, Head of Product Development at Böhnke + Partner GmbH, was full of praise: “iDiscovery is a super high-performance system, it is very advanced, modular and offers a highly professional impression.” In the simulation room, the guests were finally given the opportunity to try out the new technology for themselves – and lively discussions with Michael Schatt, APS Project Manager at CEDES, ensued.

Delighted by more safety

The guests were particularly enthralled with the increased level of safety offered by iDiscovery. More safety for elevator passengers but also for maintenance staff – the questions of the business representatives clearly indicated the strict safety demands of the major manufacturers, and iDiscovery did not fail to impress.

But iDiscovery also offers something else: The keyword here is less – less complex and less time consuming in terms of commissioning, which in turn leads to less costs. “In my opinion, reducing installation time and thus staff costs is the right way to go, and iDiscovery seems to offer a very clear advantage in this respect,” explains Jörn Wittig, GAT Gemeinschaft Aufzugs-Technik eG.

CEDES has recognized that the elevator industry is changing and is therefore launching iDiscovery, a system that heralds a new dawn in elevator safety. The pre-launch was organized by CEDES to inform the intermediate customers about iDiscovery prior to its official launch and, above all, to inspire their interest in this new product. The innovative company from Landquart definitely succeeded in doing both.
