CEDES Insights: Mastering the EU market challenges together

05/21/2025
Andreas Hunziker, President CEDES EMEA Sales, talks about the trends in the European elevator market, the associated challenges for our customers and our approach to solving them.

Focus on modernization

Today's economic situation is characterized by uncertainties that have an inhibiting effect on new investments. In the elevator industry, we have therefore been observing a decline in new installations and a stronger focus on modernization. CEDES is gearing up to this fast-paced business by shortening the order cycle and delivery times and increasing the stock of MOD items. Our goal is to enable a smooth upgrade of your elevators and to bring the aging equipment up to date in terms of safety and ride comfort. With our carefree packages such as the easygard  FullMOD Kit for door safeguarding or the IMS 100 Pro MOD Kit for entrance area monitoring, you are well equipped for your modernization projects.

Impact of skills shortage on elevator maintenance

Demographic change is relentless: an already latent shortage of skilled workers will become even more acute in the future as many experienced workers retire and young talent will opt for other professions in the service sector. Therefore, when designing our products, we strive not only to simplify installation, but also to significantly reduce maintenance efforts. Our APS absolute positioning system is a good example of this – the contactless operating principle ensures maintenance-free operation. Our IoT-enabled light curtain cegard/Smart connected to the cloud-based IoT platform CEDES Elevate also aims to optimize maintenance work through condition monitoring and support service technicians with valuable information.

Sustainability at the core

Sustainability has become a requirement in public tenders – and rightly so. It is our common task to use the available resources sparingly and to minimize the negative impact of our actions. To strengthen our ESG commitment, we recently  successfully completed an EcoVadis Assessement and are in the process of implementing the resulting recommendations. The idea of sustainability also shapes the development of our products, which enable energy savings through faster door closing times, standby mode or ignoring cross-traffic. The aforementioned APS combined with the iDiscovery safety supervisor unit and an electrically activated safety gear radically simplify the elevator hoistway. They eliminate the need for many mechanical components, which do not need to be produced, transported, installed and maintained.

Let's talk about your challenges

In the coming months, you can meet the CEDES team at several European industry events and see our solutions in action. Vakabeurs Facilitair & Gebouwbeheer in 's-Hertogenbosch (NL), LIFTEX in London and ELEVCON in Lisbon are coming up in June, and in autumn we will be at the interlift in Nuremberg and GEE in Milan. We are looking forward to talking about your challenges and the possible solutions. See you soon!

Best regards,
Andreas Hunziker
